The Olivia Chronicles (S2, E5)
Setting the Stage
Initially, I was going to include today’s story as an update to a prior post. In that post, I chronicled the exploits of this season’s osprey chicks (Alex and Pat) in their early attempts at flight. Alex was already well along in his aerial skills, but Pat was still struggling to get off the ground.
Today was a banner day for Pat: He made it up to one of the perches!
Let me first provide the dear reader with a little context. In the previous outing, I was interested in capturing their progress through videos. Today would be oriented towards getting good stills. Below, we have the two players in this little drama, Pat (in the nest) and Alex (on the right perch):
Alex, who only has a cameo appearance today, has already executed a number of sorties around the ‘hood. (That’s why he’s up on the perch.) Poor Pat has struggled. (That’s why he’s standing in the nest.)
I will now get out of the way, and let the pictures tell the story. It’s important to point out that the six photos below show the actual sequence of events from start to finish.
Pat Earns His Wings
In the first pic, Pat is ready for take-off! Notice his straight-legged stance as he propels himself upwards:
He’s in the air!
It’s too late to turn back now!
Almost to the left perch!
Whew, made it!
“Praise to the Lord! I did it!”
And there you have it…Pat earns a perfect score!
Thanks for watching! ♦♦♦
